Membership to Winnipeg Public Library is free and is for residents of Winnipeg only. Please visit any of our branches during operating hours. Staff will verbally complete an application form for you. You will be asked to show acceptable identification.
If you live in Winnipeg, but don’t have ID, you can still get a library membership. It will be a limited membership allowing you to borrow up to 5 items at a time, instead of 100. You can update your limited card to a full card at any time by showing acceptable identification.
You can also register for an online membership. Please remember to write down your PIN and your online library card number, including the – (dash). This membership will give you access to our digital library only (eBooks, databases, etc.). You can’t take out physical materials or place holds on physical materials with an online membership.
Looking for award-winning and -nominated books in our collection? Then take a look at the Awards & Bestsellers lists in our catalogue, where you'll find local and international literary awards, awards based on genre and age categories, and non-book awards.
The Library offers Book Club Kits for "Young Adult" (teen) audiences. Kits come with 10 copies of a book and a guide with discussion questions, tips for hosting a book club and more. The loan period is 60 days.
