This guide provides answers to questions about the current library closures and re-openings during COVID-19. Version française

All library branches (excluding Cornish, which is closed for renovations) are open for contactless holds pickup and return services only.

All book returns are open 24/7 (excluding Cornish).

Customers are not able to enter branches.

Holds may be placed using the library’s online catalogue or mobile app or by phoning the library.

We are not accepting donations of books or other materials at this time. 

What are the hours of operation?

Harvey Smith, Munroe, Osborne, St. John’s, and Windsor Park branches:

Monday – CLOSED
Tuesday – 1pm to 8pm
Wednesday – CLOSED
Thursday – 1pm to 8pm
Friday – 10am to 5pm
Saturday – 10am to 5pm
Sunday – CLOSED

Charleswood, Fort Garry, Henderson, Louis Riel, Millennium, Pembina Trail, River Heights, St. Boniface, St. Vital, St. James-Assiniboia, Sir William Stephenson, Transcona, West Kildonan and Westwood branches:

Monday – 10am to 5pm
Tuesday – 10am to 8pm
Wednesday – CLOSED
Thursday – 10am to 8pm
Friday – 10am to 5pm
Saturday – 10am to 5pm
Sunday – CLOSED

How does contactless holds pickup work?

You will receive an email or telephone notification when your hold is ready to be checked out, as well as how long it will be available for pickup.

Please follow these steps:

  • Call the library before you go to pick up your item(s) so your holds will be ready for you. Do not leave a message – please continue calling until you speak to a staff member. Visit our Contact Us page for the library phone numbers.
  • Staff will ask for your name and library card number. Then they will check out the items to you, mark them with your name and tell you where to pick them up.
  • Visit the library during open hours and follow staff directions or signage to the designated pickup area; at most branches this will be near the front door or in the front vestibule.
  • Only one (1) person is allowed in the holds pickup area at a time – please wait outside if required. Please wear a face mask and practice physical distancing in the designated holds pick up area.

What else can I borrow?

The Digital Library is open and available 24/7. Through it you can access:

  • downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks
  • streaming movies and music
  • eMagazines and newspapers
  • Research databases

Many of our online services have added free content (i.e. available without having to place a hold or use a credit).
