Winnipeg Public Library provides contactless holds pick-up and return services at 10 library branches, in alignment with Provincial Public Health Orders:

What are the hours of operation?

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Friday – 10am to 2pm
  • Thursday – 3pm to 7pm
  • Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday – CLOSED

Service at these libraries will be for contactless holds pick-up and return services only. Customers will not be able to enter branches. Holds may be placed using the library’s online catalogue or mobile app or by phoning the library starting December 7th.

Staff are answering phones when the library is closed. To speak with staff, you can call 9:30am-5pm (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) and 1-8pm (Thursday).

How does contactless holds pickup work?

You will receive an email or telephone notification when your hold is ready to be checked out as well as how long it will be available for pickup.

Did you have items waiting for you at one of the ten open branches before we closed on October 31st? New notification will not be sent out, so please check your account.

Visit the library during open hours and please follow these steps:

  • Before you go to pick up your item, call the library so your items will be ready to pick up when you arrive. Do not leave a message – continue calling until you speak to a staff member. Visit our Contact Us page for the library phone numbers.
  • Staff will ask for your name and library card number. Then they will check out the items to you, mark them with your name and tell you where to pick them up.
  • Follow staff directions or signage to the designated pick up area; at most branches this will be near the front door or in the front vestibule.
  • Only one (1) person is allowed in the holds pickup area at a time – please wait outside if required. Please wear a face mask and practice physical distancing in the designated holds pick up area.

What else can I borrow?

The digital library is open and available 24/7. Through it you can access:

  • downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks
  • streaming movies and music
  • eMagazines and newspapers
  • Research databases

Many of our online services have added free content (i.e. available without having to place a hold or use a credit).
